Gardeners at Blackpool Pleasure Beach are celebrating after scooping two top awards at this year’s Britain in Bloom North West Awards. The 42-acre park won Best Large Tourist Attraction and also picked up Gold in the Large Tourist Attraction category.
This is the 20th year that the Lancashire amusement park has taken home awards from the ceremony and the judging criteria included the design and quality of the floral displays, hard and soft landscaping projects, environmental quality and overall impression.
Wendy Maynard, Head Gardener at Blackpool Pleasure Beach said: “Holding these awards are a fantastic testament to all of our hard work throughout the year. We’re pleased that our gardens have so much recognition and love and we just can’t wait to get the spades out ready for next season!”
The North West in Bloom awards have been held annually since 1964 and is the voluntary regional organisation that administers the Britain in Bloom competition in Lancashire, Cheshire, Greater Manchester and Merseyside, and is one of the eighteen regions and Nations that comprise Britain in Bloom.
The aim of the competition is to encourage the improvement of our surroundings through the imaginative use of trees, shrubs, flowers and landscaping. It also aims to achieve a litter free and sustainable environment. The awards strive to recognise excellence in horticulture across the region.
Amanda Thompson OBE, CEO of Blackpool Pleasure Beach said: “Guest experience is a top priority for us, and with Wendy and her team’s contribution to the grounds, we can proudly say we are a green park that provides our guests with refreshing breath of nature and a beautiful landscape. A huge congratulations.”
