The Queen's Platinum Jubilee Beacons is the first national community event of the four-day Jubilee Weekend, from 2 – 5 June 2022.
Blackpool will be taking part in the Community Beacons where thousands of beacons will be lit by communities, charities and different landmarks throughout the regions of the UK, Channel Islands, Isle of Man and UK Overseas Territories, coming together to celebrate this magnificent milestone.
Beacon lighting has long been associated with celebrating major milestones, including Royal Jubilees, weddings and coronations. Dating all the way back to 1897, beacons were lit to celebrate Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee. Most recently, beacons have been used to mark the 75th anniversary of VE Day and Her Majesty’s 90th birthday in 2016.
What's happening on Thursday 2 June?
Between 9:00 - 9:45pm, Blackpool will join the national beacon lighting with a reading of the Royal Proclamation and Bugler fanfare to start the countdown to the beacon lighting from the top of The Blackpool Tower.
In true Blackpool style, it will be adding its own unique twist to the ceremony. A magical Tower lighting spectacle will be interspersed with fireworks bursts from the top of the Tower, followed by the Jubilee light show to create a unique celebration of this very special royal milestone. Take your place along the Promenade or on the Tower Festival Headland to watch the show - it's free!
All weekend, the world-famous Blackpool Tower will light up in red, white and blue to commemorate the Platinum Jubilee.
