World Fireworks Championship Blackpool return for 2026
Dates have now been confirmed for this year’s spectacular World Fireworks Championship Blackpool, one of the resort’s most iconic autumn events.
Three countries will compete across three nights:
- 12 September – 'Celtic Fireworks' for Wales - 8.15pm firing time build up from 7.45pm
- 26 September – 'Fireworks for Africa' for South Africa - 7.45pm firing time build up from 7.15pm
- 10 October – 'Haupt Feuerwerke' for Germany - Due to predicted weather conditions, this event has been cancelled. Please see statement below:
A VisitBlackpool spokesperson said: “We are disappointed to announce that the World Fireworks Championship Blackpool, scheduled for Saturday 10 October, will not take place due to forecast weather conditions.
“Following close monitoring of the weather forecast throughout the week, the expected wind speed and direction would make it unsafe for the event to proceed.
“We appreciate that many people were looking forward to the finale of this year’s competition, but the safety of both the fireworks teams and spectators must always come first.
“Over the next few days, we will explore whether there are any future dates when the event could potentially take place.”
Each breathtaking display - synchronised to music and launched from the beach in front of The Blackpool Tower - is completely free to attend, offering visitors and residents the chance to enjoy world‑class pyrotechnics in an iconic location.

Listen on DAB Digital Radio across Blackpool (search for BPL ILLUMINATION) or listen online at www.blackpool.gov.uk/radio. As well as playing music all day and night, Illuminations Radio will also provide important travel updates during major events, helping visitors stay informed about traffic, parking and public transport throughout the evening.
Rain alone does not affect whether a display goes ahead. Our Events Team, in partnership with Titanium Fireworks, continuously monitor weather conditions in the lead-up to each event, with a particular focus on wind speed and direction, and storm conditions, which are the key factors in any decision to postpone or cancel a show. So bring a brolly and wrap up warm if rain is forecast and enjoy the show!

The firework display takes place over the beach in front of the iconic Blackpool Tower. Take your place along Central Promenade between Central Pier and North Pier to watch the spectacle.
All displays are subject to suitable weather conditions. The event will build-up 30 minutes before each display:
- 12 September – 8.15pm firing time build up from 7.45pm
- 26 September – 7.45pm firing time build up from 7.15pm
- 10 October – 7.30pm firing time build up from 7pm
Safety Advice: Please note there will be a Promenade and Tramway closure from North Pier to Central Pier. The tramway will run a split service.
