This winter, Blackpool’s Tower Festival Headland will be transformed into a breath-taking festive village complete with an outdoor skating rink, simulated snowfalls, log cabins, magical forest, larger-than-life light installations, festive light projection shows and magical tram rides on the Golden Mile.
Wrap up warm, grab a tasty sweet treat or gift from our charming cabins and spend an evening discovering all what’s on offer in this unmissable outdoor experience.
Free Glice Skating Rink
Get your skates on, Blackpool’s first ever outdoor skating rink on the promenade will make its sensational debut in November. The 40m rink is the sparkling centrepiece of our Christmas By The Sea village. Standing in the shadow of the iconic Blackpool Tower, the synthetic rink is free to use for both residents and visitors and includes skate hire. Check out the opening times, session scheule and FAQs for more information.
Whether you’re an avid skater practising your pirouettes or a first-timer gripping the outside rails and struggling to stay upright, the rink caters for all ages and skating levels.
Slip, slide and skate across the rink with the world-famous Blackpool Tower and Illuminations as your dramatic backdrop, take in those picture-perfect moments and delight in a skating session like no other.
Prefer to watch on the side or take a break? Warm up with a mulled wine or hot chocolate from one of the Christmas cabins. There will be an exclusive area to sit down and bask in the magical atmosphere as hundreds of skaters take to the rink.
The rink will open on selected dates from 19 November until 17 December, and then daily until January 3.
Due to the fresh salt air and our close proximity to the Irish Sea, it’s not very often Blackpool turns into a snowy winter wonderland. It’s always a magical occurrence when we do see a light dusting though, which is why we’re taking it into our own hands and making it snow at the seaside this winter!
If you are dreaming of a white Christmas, put on your best woolly hat and gloves and head to the Tower Festival Headland for the full alpine experience. From 19 November – 3 January, regular snowfalls will be bursting out of our special cannons near the projection unit on the Headland throughout the evening. Take your place on the Comedy Carpet for the snow-filled surprise.
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow…
Alongside the cabins you will find a magical Christmas tree forest with twinkling lights. 35 pixelated trees of varying sizes will be set to four dazzling programmes as they illuminate the Headland.
Step into the mesmerising, enchanted forest and embark on a journey through the instagrammable installations. Venture through the immersive 26-metre light tunnel created with individually mapped LEDs that allow complex patterns to beautifully dance around you. Phones at the ready, the magical forest will be an ethereal experience.
Our seafront Christmas village wouldn’t be complete without an array of illuminated cabins serving a range of festive treats and goodies.
Warm up with a hot chocolate, tuck into some delicious warm cookie dough or stop by for a glass of mulled wine if you’re in need of a tipple or two. Alongside the wide selection of culinary delights, find a range of exclusive gifts and look out for the limited edition I Love BPL merchandise with a Yuletide twist.
All the traders you see in the charming chalets are local independent businesses which means every purchase made will support our local economy.
The illuminated cabins take pride of place on the Tower Festival Headland and will be open from 19 November to 12 December (Fri-Sun) Fridays 6-9pm, Saturday and Sunday from 12-9pm, and Monday to Sunday from 12-9pm from the 17 December to 3 January.
Giant Illuminated Bauble
Looking for the perfect photo op? A giant illuminated bauble will be twinkling on the promenade next to the picturesque ice skating rink. Walk under the seven metre stand-alone installation made up of 7,000 tiny baubles and strike your best pose for the camera. You can’t miss it!
Festive Tower Projections
New for 2021, Frost Fairies is an enchanting children’s story of fairies, fireflies, precious jewels and ice palaces projected nightly on to the front of The Blackpool Tower building. Watch the Tower magically come alive as the projection colourfully bursts into life and the frost fairies delicately take over this historic building.
Specially produced by video projection artists Illuminos, it will be shown along with several other projection shows throughout the extended Blackpool Illuminations season (until 3 January). Don’t miss the powerful Astral Dreams laser light show created by Blackpool-born international designer Jack Irving, who is best known for creating wildly theatrical outfits for Lady Gaga.
Grab a bite to eat and take your place on the Comedy Carpet to enjoy the free-to-view spectacle. Find more details on all the Tower Projections here.
