Wordpool Family Day Returns for an Out of this World Experience 20 June 2019 by Visit Blackpool Blackpool’s free family festival will return on Saturday 6th of July for a day of fantastic arts activities, performance and storytelling. This year the event celebrates 50 years since the first landing on the moon with an ‘out of this world’ space theme – from aliens to spaceships, astronauts to the weird and wonderful, there will be plenty for all ages to see and do throughout the day. Holly Goodfellow, Producer of his year’s Family Day said, “Audiences can expect to see and get involved with a whole range of free activities, from science experiments to spaceships and alien encounters. This has always been a highlight in the Blackpool summer calendar and we’re so pleased to announce that we will be back this year with another very special event.” Special visitors to this year’s family day are The Roswell Family, all the way from Outer Space. They have made Blackpool the first stop on their summer holiday and will be here to discover just what a typical British holiday looks like. They would love to meet some Blackpool families to compare experiences. We know you will make them very welcome. This will be the 13th year of the festival which was set up to celebrate literature, writers and words, in all their many wonderful forms. Blackpool’s Art and Libraries Service has teamed up with LeftCoast, The Grundy, Blackpool Museums and Heritage, Blackpool Illuminations and partners across the town to produce a vibrant programme, which will be released over the next few weeks. This year Wordpool Family Day coincides perfectly with the Fields in Trust ‘Have a Field Day’ where people are encouraged to enjoy local parks and green spaces and gave a picnic on July 6th – for the first time we will a have a dedicated picnic area – on our moon! The event is completely free, just turn up and register in Stanley Park. You can pick up a map and list of the day’s activities. Councillor Gillian Campbell, Deputy Leader of Blackpool Council, said: “Wordpool is a fantastic event. It’s entertaining, informative and inspiring. Once again it is offering an exciting range of activities and performances. There really is something to suit all tastes. “Wordpool is always a well-attended and much loved event and I am sure that the Out of This World Experience theme will again draw in the crowds.” Last year the popular event in Stanley Park saw 4,000 people turn up to join in its circus themed activities.
