The prestigious dance competition, The Open Worlds, returns to The Blackpool Tower Ballroom for a second year on 4 - 9 May 2023.
The competition premiered at The Blackpool Tower Ballroom in 2022, attracting Professional Ballroom and Latin American dancers from across the globe to showcase their talent in the spiritual home of dance.
Now in its second year, the best of the best are preparing to compete in the iconic Blackpool Tower ballroom for the chance to be declared The Open Worlds Champions.
Event organiser Paul Killick is no stranger to the Blackpool dancefloor, with an extensive career as a Professional Latin dancer gaining World Champion and National titles as well playing a role in the creation of BBC’s Strictly Come dancing and performing on the popular show too.
Paul Killick, Open Worlds Event organiser said: “I am delighted to be returning to The Magical Blackpool Tower Ballroom for the 2nd year of the Open Worlds.
The Tower Ballroom is famous amongst dancers across the globe, many will be experiencing its charm for the first time when they compete in May, others have history with the place, having either competed here as children or have danced there in competitions before, but no matter how many times any dancer has been, the feeling of awe, wonder and even a sense of being home is always present every time you enter the Ballroom..
This event will see the World Champions and National Champions from around the world compete, however it is important to us that it celebrates the inclusivity and diversity of the times for all who love dance. Tickets are on sale to anyone who wishes to see this world-class spectacle and we are excited to welcome you to relax and enjoy this chance to see such calibre perform.”
The competition is split into several age and genre categories including Solo competitions, Under 8s and the Adults’ World title heats in Ballroom and Latin American. As a special addition there will be an Invitational Exhibition event by the most amazing and exciting arial dancers. All sections are available to watch with spectator tickets available across all dates 4th – 9th May.
Audiences will also be treated to some fabulous music, from The Len Phillips Swing Orchestra playing to accompany the dancers and the famous Wurlitzer Organ of the Blackpool Tower will also be lifted up from below the stage to make an appearance for selected dances.
Kate Shane, Regional Director for Merlin Entertainments - Blackpool, said: “I am delighted we are welcoming such a spectacular event to the Blackpool Tower Ballroom. This level of competition is so exciting to watch, I encourage everyone to come and see how these world class dancers encapsulate the spirit of the Ballroom, bringing it to life with their skills and creativity”
