SEA LIFE Beach Clean 2023

SEA LIFE Blackpool is calling on local people to help protect our oceans and beaches as part of its Global Beach Clean.
Taking place on Thursday 8th June – World Oceans Day – the event is organised by The SEA LIFE Trust and involves groups from all over the world coming together to help make oceans plastic-free.
As part of the event, SEA LIFE Blackpool is rallying people of all ages to sign up and show their support.
Kicking off at 9am, the beach clean is one of 52 events happening around the globe.
The SEA LIFE team provide all equipment such as litter pickers, bag holders and gloves, so participants need only bring themselves and any family, friends or colleagues who want to take part.
Scott Blacker, head aquarist at SEA LIFE Blackpool, said: “The issue of plastics and pollution in our oceans is not slowing down and we need to act now to protect our marine animals right across the world before it’s too late.
“Events such as the Global Beach Clean are a vital way of bringing together communities in one united mission – to create plastic-free oceans for future generations.
“The items we tend to collect the most are plastic bottles, plastics bags, cigarette butts and fishing nets, all of which can have a devastating impact on the creatures that live in the sea.
“Of course, the more people who join us for the clean-up, the bigger the difference we can make so we would appeal to anyone who has a couple of hours spare to come down and get involved with us!”
