Scots Surprised With Blackpool Tower Ballroom Treat!

The Blackpool Tower is taking its world-famous ballroom on tour!

As part of the Blackpool Tower’s 125th birthday celebrations this year, residents in care homes across Scotland are being given a special treat.
 
Until May next year, The Blackpool Tower will be doing random acts of kindness to give thanks to those who have visited The Blackpool Tower over the years including people that can no longer visit.
 
The tower team will take their special 125th birthday afternoon tea to homes in Glasgow, Edinburgh and Dumfries. Residents will also receive some top dancing tips from tutor Ali King and all to the sounds of some of the most famous tunes of years gone by.
 
Over the generations, Blackpool has developed a reputation as the holiday destination of choice for thousands of Scots.

The Blackpool Tower’s general manager, Kenny Mew, was born and raised in Dumfries and Scotland has always had a special place in his heart.
 
He first visited Blackpool when he was seven. Immediately falling in love with it, Kenny made it his ambition to one day work in the town.
 
In a career lasting more than 25 years, Kenny has worked his way up from selling fish and chips in a Blackpool chip shop to managing one of the most famous landmarks in the country. 
 
He said: “The Blackpool Tower has a special place in the hearts of many people but nowhere more so than Scotland. I know from my own childhood what Blackpool means for Scots so it felt right that in our 125th year, we took a piece of Blackpool up north to those that can no longer visit.
 
“The reaction so far has been fantastic and has made the whole day worthwhile. We want in our 125th birthday year to really celebrate the people that make The Blackpool Tower. It’s thanks to them that we’re still here all these years on.”
