17 July 2019
by Visit Blackpool
LeftCoast are delighted to present, LIVE from SpareParts at Tram Sunday in Fleetwood on 21 July, Hunt & Darton’s Radio Local, celebrating the joys and necessity of local radio and local community.
The innovative performance duo Hunt & Darton will set up shop – or, recording studio – in the centre of the action on Victoria Street (opposite Fleetwood Library), seeking out local stories, observations and opinions, from the charmingly mundane to the quite extraordinary to the borderline ridiculous, in a celebration of everything that is local.
Tina Redford, LeftCoast’s Artistic Director said, “We are delighted to host the charmingly bonkers Hunt and Darton show at Tram Sunday. For the last eight weeks, the duo has been working with local people in Fleetwood to bring us a unique 12 hour radio show. It promises to be chockful of songs stories and surprises so I do hope people tune in to experience Radio Local's brand of good fun and positivity!”
The show will be broadcast LIVE between 6am – 6pm and you can listen in Fleetwood at Tram Sunday or online at www.fyldecoastradio.org The show will also be made into a podcast – keep an eye on @leftcoastuk and be the first to hear.
There are loads of different ways to get involved on the day:
NEWS SEGMENT - Hunt & Darton will be out on the street looking for scoops for the regular News update. We want to hear YOUR news - from your new conservatory to your ingrown toenail.
JINGLE MAKING - Head straight into our Jingle Shed – kitted out with the finest instruments available from the Early Learning Centre – and record your own Radio Local jingle to be played throughout the day.
SOAP OPERA - Add the next line to our soap opera script, written en masse by Locals and sure to be award-winning. Hunt & Darton will check in with the growing drama as it unfolds.
PICK A SONG - Tweet us @huntdarton with your song requests and we’ll ask the Local Legend DJ very nicely to squeeze it in somewhere… no promises!
And if the hustle and bustle of Tram Sunday gets too much head on over to our Listening Shed where you can sit back and listen to the sweet sounds of Radio Local.
Drawing on their signature deadpan, playful and inclusive approach, Hunt & Darton will turn regular radio features into a series of absurd games from news bulletins to restaurant reviews. There are even guest presenters, our own local legends, who will be taking over the airwaves with their favourite songs every hour.
Budget cuts and increasing centralisation of the media have led to demise in support for local radio, with many local shows closing their networks. Hunt & Darton are travelling the UK, aerials strapped to their heads, inviting members of the public and guest presenters to highlight local activity and what their community means to them.
Jenny Hunt and Holly Darton said, “Radio Local is our most ambitious project to date, through commissions and workshops we want to really empower people, their contributions culminating in a challenging and highly engaging live public broadcast where we build radio with the general public. We are excited to see what collaborations grow and how much we can celebrate local voices. We have high expectations of the people out there and know that ultimately, it wouldn’t be local without them.”
