Parking boost over Christmas

Blackpool Council and the Blackpool BID have joined forces to launch two festive car parking offers ahead of the Christmas shopping period.
The first offer, aimed at helping local firms and encouraging visitors and residents to discover Blackpool’s wide variety of small shops on national “Small Business Saturday”, will see free parking offered at all Council car parks on Saturday 6 December. The offer is available throughout the day and evening.
The second offer will see shoppers offered parking for a pound in four town centre car parks – West Street, Central, Talbot multi-storey and East Topping Street.
This offer will run on the four Thursday late night shopping events on November 27 and December 4, 11 and 18 from 5pm until midnight. Joining in with the Thursday night offer , the Houndshill Shopping Centre car park will also be a pound to park from 5pm – midnight.
Sunday November 30 and December 7, 14 and 21 are also included in the Park for a Pound offer in the four Council Town Centre Car Parks.
It is hoped the two offers will mean a healthy influx of visitors to Blackpool’s ever improving town centre to take advantage of the range of shops, restaurants and entertainment on offer.
Cllr John Jones, cabinet member for highways and transport, said: “The Christmas period is the most important time of the year for the retail sector and we want to do all that we can to encourage as many shoppers as possible in Blackpool.
“These offers are designed to attract people to carry out their Christmas shopping in Blackpool and hopefully also stop for bite to eat or to enjoy a show.
“For our local businesses to thrive they need support from local people. I hope that residents and visitors take advantage of these parking offers and in turn support our local economy.”
Eileen Ormand, Town Centre and BID Manager said: “ With the variety of good quality restaurants and cafes, national and independent retailers and our enviable leisure offer with theatres, bars, clubs, and the Winter Gardens, and the Blackpool Tower our town centre really does have something for everyone.
“These car parking offers jointly funded by Blackpool BID and Blackpool Council will benefit our loyal residents and visitors and are a real thank you to them for their visits but also are a great way to encourage people who perhaps haven’t visited the town centre for some time to ‘Park for a Pound’ and come and see just why Blackpool town centre is so special.
“I urge everyone to take up these Car Parking offers, support the independent stores on Small Business Saturday, come into the town centre on the Christmas Thursday nights and think how much fun you and your family can have in Blackpool all day (and evening!) for just a pound to park your car on the Christmas Sundays.”
