Blackpool Grand Theatre is delighted to announce that the Tony® and double Olivier Award®-winning smash hit musical Operation Mincemeat will visit the theatre from 15 – 19 June 2027, as part of an extended UK leg of its acclaimed world tour.
Following more than 290,000 tickets sold and over 20 weeks of sold-out performances on its first UK tour, the production has confirmed a second national tour due to phenomenal demand, with Blackpool among the newly announced destinations.
The second UK leg will begin in Dartford on 23 February 2027 and tour for 36 weeks, calling at cities across the UK and Ireland including Belfast, Dublin, Liverpool, Leicester and Blackpool, alongside a much-anticipated return to The Lowry in Salford.
The announcement comes as Operation Mincemeat continues its extraordinary global success. Alongside its record-breaking West End run at London's Fortune Theatre, now extended into its fifth year, the production is also enjoying a hugely successful Broadway engagement following its Tony Award® win, with productions touring across North America and plans spanning four continents including Australia, China, Mexico and New Zealand.
Andrew Howard, Head of Audience, Marketing and Sales at Blackpool Grand Theatre, said:
"We are absolutely thrilled that Blackpool Grand Theatre has been included in the second leg of the Operation Mincemeat UK tour. This remarkable production has become one of the biggest success stories in British theatre, earning widespread critical acclaim, multiple Olivier Awards, a Tony Award and an incredible response from audiences around the world."
"Bringing the very best touring productions to Blackpool is at the heart of what we do, and Operation Mincemeat is undoubtedly one of the most sought-after theatre tickets in the UK right now. We know audiences across the Fylde Coast and beyond will be excited by the opportunity to experience this brilliantly inventive and wildly entertaining musical on our stage. It's fantastic news for both the theatre and the town to welcome a production of this calibre to Blackpool in 2027."
The news follows an extraordinary year for the production. The first leg of the UK tour began with two sold-out weeks at the 1,700-seat Lowry in Salford, playing to its largest audiences yet at the theatre that first encouraged Tony and Olivier Award®-nominated writers SpitLip to create their extraordinary debut musical. The first tour leg will culminate on 28 November after 304 performances across the country.
Along the way, the tour has welcomed devoted fan Joseph Kavanaugh, who has now seen the production more than 100 times after winning one of five Golden Tickets issued to celebrate Operation Mincemeat selling its one millionth ticket earlier this year. The prize grants him free, unlimited access to the musical anywhere in the world for life.
Tickets will go on pre-sale to Grand Theatre 1894 club members at 10am on Wednesday 23 September 2026, with general sale beginning at 10am on Friday 25 September 2026.
The year is 1943 and we're losing the war. Luckily, we're about to gamble all our futures on a stolen corpse…
Operation Mincemeat is the fast-paced, hilarious and unbelievable true story of the twisted secret mission that helped win the Second World War. The question is: how did a well-dressed corpse wrong-foot Hitler?
Operation Mincemeat began as a tiny (and tiny-budgeted) production at London's Fringe New Diorama Theatre in 2019. The show quickly developed a devoted following, leading to sold-out runs at venues including Southwark Playhouse and Riverside Studios before transferring to the West End's Fortune Theatre on 9 May 2023.
Since then, the production has won the Olivier and WhatsOnStage Awards® for Best New Musical, garnered 181 five-star reviews and counting, and become widely recognised as the best-reviewed show in West End history.
Operation Mincemeat is written by Triple Tony Award® nominees SpitLip (David Cumming, Felix Hagan, Natasha Hodgson and Zoë Roberts) and directed by Olivier Award nominee Robert Hastie, Deputy Artistic Director of the National Theatre.
Since premiering at the 77-seat New Diorama Theatre in 2019, Operation Mincemeat has been nominated for 68 awards and won 24, including four for Best Musical from the Olivier Awards®, WhatsOnStage Awards®, BroadwayWorld Theater Fans' Choice Awards and Off West End Awards. The Broadway production was nominated for four Tony Awards®, including Best Musical, and won Best Featured Actor in a Musical.
Operation Mincemeat is produced in the West End, on tour and on Broadway by Avalon in association with SpitLip. The show was commissioned by New Diorama Theatre, co-commissioned by The Lowry and supported by the Rhinebeck Writers Retreat.
Operation Mincemeat is at Blackpool Grand Theatre from Tuesday 15 to Saturday 19 June 2027. Tickets go on pre-sale / 1894 Club Members on Wednesday 23 September 2026 at 10am. General on sale from Friday 25 September 2026 at 10am.
