Love is in the air as Blackpool prepares to welcome the return of Showzam! with its popular Carnival Ball.
Showzam! is Blackpool’s annual February half-term festival which this year celebrates all things Circus.
And as the Carnival Ball – one of Blackpool’s most popular nights of the year – this year coincides with Valentine’s Day, romantics are being urged to grab last chance tickets to the party night.
The weird, the wonderful and the amazing are all set to star in this year’s romance themed Carnival Ball which takes place in the historic Blackpool Tower Ballroom.
Michael Trainor, Artistic Director at LeftCoast who have programmed this year’s Showzam!, said the Carnival Ball will be a night to remember.
He said: “The Carnival Ball is such a popular event in Blackpool’s calendar and we are hoping this year’s event will be as successful as ever. Blackpool excels at putting on fabulous shows to suit all audiences and interests and the Carnival Ball certainly falls into that hat.”
The evening on Saturday February 14 will see a wide variety of acts perform as acclaimed British comedian and drag queen Jonny Woo comperes ensuring everyone has a truly romantic time.
Highlights including Abi Collins, a one-woman rollercoaster of death defying stunts; Mysterieuses Coiffures, a hair sculptor from France; Magamus featuring a wild acrobat and juggler; the gorgeous burlesque performer Kitty Bang; highlights of the spectacular South American circus company Circolombia; amazing silk artists Starfiz; and guests will be greeted by Hocus Pocus, a sideshow of curiosities.
The night is all about getting your dancing shoes on too and there will be performances throughout from Kumpania Algazarra, an infectious Balkan style band from Portugal inspired by rousing party energy and good vibration, with added tropical heat, oriental balance, dance beats and hip-hop. The evening will be rounded off with the uber cool DJs, The Broken Hearts.
Michael added: “It’s Valentine’s night, it’s Carnival Ball and it’s Showzam! Whether people want to party with friends or as a couple on this most romantic of nights, one thing is certain and that is that they will be truly entertained.
“We are delighted with the line-up for Carnival Ball as well as the entire Showzam! programme and we look forward to feeling that incredible bounce in the Tower Ballroom’s amazing dance floor as people enjoy a magnificent night out.”
With this year’s Carnival Ball taking place on Valentine’s Day, revellers are asked to take the romance theme ‘through the ages’ and dress from any romantic era they wish with a prize for the best dressed.
The Carnival Ball takes place on Saturday February 14 in The Blackpool Tower Ballroom from 7.30pm.
Tickets are available priced £20 from VisitBlackpool Tourist Information Centre at Festival House on the Promenade or by visiting www.showzam.co.uk or Tel: 01253 478222. They are also available from The Blackpool Tower Box Office Tel: 01253 622242.
