Sometimes what you really need is a great night out: a song you know every word to, a performance that gives you goosebumps, and the feeling that you were glad you booked. Blackpool Grand Theatre has those nights sorted from October right through to Christmas, with music to match whatever mood you’re in.
For a night with real bite, start with Heathers The Musical. The award-winning hit arrives from Tuesday 27 to Saturday 31 October, and tickets are going fast. At Westerberg High, Veronica Sawyer finds herself drawn into the orbit of the school’s three most powerful girls. Then JD appears, and her bid to belong takes a dangerously dark turn. Wickedly funny, full of irresistible songs and made to be experienced with a crowd, Heathers is the show to book with the friend who will still be talking about it on the way home. The Saturday 31 October, 2.30pm performance will be audio described and BSL interpreted.
If singing your heart out sounds more like your kind of evening, you needn’t wait until Halloween. Steve Steinman and a ten-piece live band bring the epic songs of Meat Loaf and Jim Steinman to The Grand in Anything for Love on Saturday 3 October. Dreamcoat Stars follows on Sunday 11 October, when Matt Lapinskas, Keith Jack, Graham Tudor and Rob McVeigh share the musical theatre songs audiences love. And on Sunday 25 October, Lee Mead joins former West End Phantoms for The Phantoms: a chance to hear great stage music delivered by performers who know how to make it soar.
November brings plenty of reasons to make a date in the diary. Guitar lovers can settle in for five decades of unforgettable riffs when the tenth anniversary tour of The Story of Guitar Heroes arrives on Sunday 1 November. The following Sunday, 8 November, offers a different kind of musical experience. In Where We Belong - Sandgrown Song Cycle, six local choirs perform six new songs shaped by Blackpool’s LGBTQ+ stories. Created with local people and community groups, it promises an evening of voices, stories and belonging that could only happen here.
Then comes a run of nights built for sharing. The Stylistics bring their harmonies and soul hits to The Grand on Friday 13 November - just the occasion to bring someone who remembers where they were when they first heard You Make Me Feel Brand New. On Sunday 15 November, The Overtones get the celebrations started early with Jivin’ Home for Christmas, folding festive favourites into their mix of soul, Motown, doo-wop and pop.
The following week, you can pull up a seat at the most musical pub you’re ever likely to visit. Direct from the West End, the Olivier Award-nominated The Choir of Man runs from Tuesday 17 to Saturday 21 November. Nine performers, live instruments and songs associated with everyone from Queen to Adele come together in a show about friendship, community and the joy of being in the room together. The Saturday 21 November, 2.30pm performance will be audio described and BSL interpreted.
Still deciding what your ideal night out sounds like? The last week of November has options. Sing along to six decades of Neil Diamond favourites with Jesse Rivers in Hello Again… The Neil Diamond Songbook on Wednesday 25 November. Spend Thursday 26 November among the songs and stories of Christmas In Ireland, then let the Red Hot Chilli Pipers raise the roof with bagpipes and rock anthems on Friday 27 November. On Saturday 28 November, Northern Live – Do I Love You brings the sound and spirit of Northern Soul to The Grand with an 11-piece band and four lead vocalists.
And when the Christmas rush begins, The Grand has an evening to bring everyone together. On Monday 14 December, Poulton-le-Fylde Brass Band fills the theatre with carols and festive favourites at the Grand Christmas Concert, hosted by Hayley Kay. Bring family, bring friends, and give yourselves a couple of hours to enjoy the season.
