Pleasure Beach Resort in Blackpool has uncovered a series of photos of guests enjoying its Grand Prix ride – and it wants to recreate the pictures before the ride closes for good.
The attraction has launched a search to find the people pictured and invite them to re-take the photo, 30 years on, at its Grand Prix: The Final Lap event on 7th June.
There are five photos dating back to the early nineties, and the Pleasure Beach is keen to find all seven people pictured.
They’ll be invited to attend the Grand Prix: The Final Lap event as VIPs, where they’ll be presented with their photos before enjoying the ride one last time, and recreating the nostalgic images with Pleasure Beach’s photographer.
Amanda Thompson OBE, CEO of Pleasure Beach Resort, said: “Our rich history is one of the things that makes us stand out from other parks in the UK, and although we’re looking to the future and ways to evolve, it’s important to us to acknowledge our heritage.
“It’s not uncommon for our guests to recreate their childhood photos at Pleasure Beach, and when we came across these pictures we knew we simply had to find the subjects. We’d love to be able reconstruct these magical moments as we wave goodbye to the Grand Prix for the final time.”
Anyone who recognises themselves or somebody else in the photos is asked to email pressoffice@bpbltd.com, or contact Pleasure Beach Resort on social media.
The Grand Prix ride first opened in 1960 and has been a family favourite ever since. Originally called the Turnpike, the cars were petrol powered until 2002 when they became powered by electricity.
Grand Prix: The Final Lap is the final opportunity for guests to experience the beloved ride before it is removed to make way for a new attraction, and attendees will receive commemorative memorabilia to recognise their participation in such an iconic moment in Pleasure Beach’s history.
They’ll also enjoy live music, DJ and entertainment, as well as prosecco on arrival and Grand Prix-themed snacks and food, plus three hours of exclusive ride time ICON – a coaster which sees guests experience the same G-force as a Formula 1 driver.
Pleasure Beach has a host of surprises planned for the evening still to be announced, and party area will be taken over by real-life supercars provided by Bispham-based business Elite Competitions, along with Pleasure Beach Resort’s Jordan F1 car.
Grand Prix: The Final Lap is taking place on Friday June 7 from 6pm until late. Tickets can be purchased online over on Pleasure Beach Resort website.
