A Rib-Tickling Night at Comedy Station Blackpool!

“Life literally abounds in comedy if you just look around you.” – Mel Brooks
. . . so why not come and have a giggle in Blackpool? On the 1st of July, we went to the brilliantly located Viva Blackpool on Blackpool Promenade to enjoy the Comedy Station hosted by the excellent Ryan Gleeson!
Established in 2012, Viva Blackpool is an amazing venue providing award-winning service, great dining options and some of the most sensational Blackpool shows!
The Comedy Station itself is held in the Round Room; a smaller venue with a limited seating capacity. Even at the back of the room, we still felt just as involved with the audience as we did when we sat on the front row, and you have a great vantage point no matter where you sit! Hosted by Resident MC Ryan Gleeson, the Comedy Station is the longest running event of its type in the town, and it’s easy to see why. Now in its 16th year, the show features four hilarious acts to provide chortles aplenty over the course of the evening. You’ll encounter all sorts of comics here, from young up-and-comers to a more seasoned wit.
There’s plenty of choice of soft drinks, wines, beers and a sassy cocktail menu. Drink prices are extremely reasonable, too.
The show itself is great value for money. With a run time of 2.5 hours and just two short intervals, there’s plenty of content to keep you chuckling, and all for just £15.50 for standard admission! Furthermore, special rates apply for groups of ten or more.

Ryan Gleeson is a great host. He keeps the audience laughing between acts, the energy levels high and minimises any audience disruptions (of which there are very few) with expert skill. He’s keen to remind people that the jokes really are just that – jokes. The humour here can be very adult and some people may find it offensive, but the comedians really are there to make you laugh, have a good time and maybe even give you a little food for thought.
Tom Short took to the stage first, and straight off the bat we could tell that the humour would be underpinned by social awkwardness and we squealed with delight. Being the first act on, you’d think that the crowd would be a tough sell, but we instantly lapped up his self-deprecating style and quick-fire delivery. Tom did a great job; we knew we were in good hands straight away, and the night was so enjoyable from here on.
Next up was Callum Oakley. One of the team thought they had recognised him; he’s all grown up from his 2012 TV debut when he made it to the semi-finals of Britain’s Got Talent! David Walliams said of him: “I’ve never seen a stand-up comic so young and so brilliant”. He might not have as much of a baby face any more, but his lively observations had us cracking up.
Manchester-based ‘Big Lou’ is a famous face on the North West comedy scene, and within ten seconds of him being on stage, it’s clear to see why. He’s obviously very experienced as his timing was perfect and every joke got a huge laugh (including consistent and uncontrollable hysterics from the dads of one of the team). His stage presence was electric and finished the night on such a high.
The Comedy Station at Viva Blackpool is an amazing option for a great night out for couples, groups and those celebrating a special occasion. We had a thoroughly good evening in a great environment watching fantastic entertainment.
Strictly for over 18s, this brilliant night out can be enjoyed every Saturday evening right in the heart of the town centre.
