Beacon

Beacon is an immersive light and sound installation by UK artist Sarah Harris that explores the connections between people, place and memory.

The illuminated pyramid takes its name from the seafaring beacon, a guiding light and signal, used to bring people safely together. In the same spirit, the artwork acts as a call for audiences to gather, pause and share a collective experience.

At its centre, layers of illustrated acrylic are animated by light, creating the illusion of flowing water. As light passes through the layered surfaces, shifting patterns emerge, echoing the movement of tides and currents. Water becomes a visual metaphor for the journeys we make, the stories we carry and the unseen connections that ripple between us.

Each presentation of Beacon is shaped by the community in which it is shown. For Lightpool, Blackpool residents have shared memories, reflections and personal stories that form part of the artwork's evolving soundscape and growing archive of voices.

Beacon invites visitors to pause, listen and reflect, discovering how individual stories combine to create a shared experience. With every new location and every new conversation, the work continues to evolve, celebrating the moments of connection that bring us together.
