Armed Forces Week is Blackpool’s opportunity to say thank you to our heroes. From June 19-25 the whole town comes together welcoming serving military personnel, veterans and cadets, with a wide range of activities targeted at them and their families as well as the many thousands of people visiting the resort.

Armed Forces Week Flag Raising Ceremony

19 June 2017

Time: approx 10:00 arrival of the flag 10:30 flag raising

Location: Blackpool Town Hall

Blackpool joins the nation in this countrywide tribute. The Armed Forces Day flag will be returned to Blackpool prior to it being raised above the Town Hall at 10:30.

Armed Forces Careers Information Day

20 June 2017

Time: 10:00–17:00

Location: Army Recruitment, Houndshill Shopping Centre

In partnership with Blackpool Council Connexions Service, representatives from the Royal Navy, Army and RAF will be available to offer careers guidance to anyone interested in joining the Armed Forces. Come along to the Army recruitment shop,at Houndshill Shopping Centre between 10:00 and 17:00 and speak to the professionals. For further information contact Connexions on 01253 754840.

Going to the Flicks

20 – 22 June 2017

Location: Odeon Cinema Blackpool

Tickets: Invitation only

Going to the Flicks is a special war-time cinema experience especially for local primary school children. The specially commissioned education film covers Blackpool during WWI, what it was like for children during WWII, footage from more recent conflicts, the Union Flag, the National Anthem, and a short Laurel & Hardy sketch. A question and answer session with tri-service military personnel and veterans will follow the film.

Tickets: FREE – £5pp deposit required fully refunded upon arrival, advanced booking is essential (Booking from date TBC) (proof of service required, i.e. MOD 90 or Veterans Badge, subject to availability)

Armed Forces Week Grand Gala Dinner

Members of the Armed Forces, veterans, families, friends and supporters are invited to enjoy a five course meal followed by entertainment from a top-class cabaret line-up and band. Dress code: lounge suits, blazers or black tie. Medals may be worn.

Armed Forces Day is brought to a climax with a full live concert by the Band & Corps of Drums of The Royal Regiment of Fusiliers (Lancashire). Please note: This is a concert and not a dance event.

Sunday Morning Service & Parade

Time: Assemble from 10:30 Service 11:00 Parade approx 11:30

Location: Blackpool Cenotaph/Promenade

Blackpool comes together to honour and unite Britain’s Armed Forces past, present and future. Attending the service will be veterans, cadets, serving military. Everyone is welcome. Following the service, Blackpool invites members of the Armed Forces, veterans and cadets to join in the short parade along the Promenade. Friends, family and members of the general public are invited to line the route, cheer and wave their Union Flags. Those wanting to lay wreaths may do so after the service.

Clubs & Institutes

Throughout the week, activities supporting the Armed Forces will take place in many venues across Blackpool, including The Royal British Legion.
