Armed Forces Week is Blackpool’s opportunity to say thank you to our heroes. From June 20 – 26 the whole town comes together welcoming serving military personnel, veterans and cadets, with a wide range of activities targeted at them and their families as well as the many thousands of people visiting the resort.

Armed Forces Week Flag Raising Ceremony

Location: Blackpool Town Hall

Blackpool joins the nation in this countrywide tribute. The Armed Forces Day flag will be returned to Blackpool prior to it being raised above the Town Hall at 10:30.

Music For Heroes

Armed Forces Careers Information Day

Location: Army Recruitment, Houndshill Shopping Centre

In partnership with Blackpool Council Connexions Service, representatives from the Royal Navy, Army and RAF will be available to offer careers guidance to anyone interested in joining the Armed Forces. Come along to the Army recruitment shop,at Houndshill Shopping Centre between 12:00 and 20:00 and speak to the professionals.

This year we have a New West End singing star MAGGIE O’HARA who will be bringing the Songs of Vera Lynn and Gracie Fields and a touch of Ann Shelton, to our Wartime Cavalcade.

With full supporting cast of MERVYN FRANCIS former singer from the Black and White Minstrel Show and our Special Guest Comedian and Multi-Instrumentalist PETE LINDUP.

With the live Music of the MARTYN ST JAMES BAND here is an afternoon show of real variety with a tribute to our Armed Forces of yesterday, today and tomorrow. With all the great songs and Music of the War Years – this is Damp eye nostalgia that leaves everyone with a warm and sentimental glow.

Going to the Flicks

21 – 23 June 2016

Location: Odeon Cinema Blackpool

Tickets: Invitation Only

Going to the Flicks is a special wartime cinema experience especially for local primary school children. The specially commissioned education film covers Blackpool during WW1, what it was like for children during WW2, footage from more recent conflicts, the Union Flag, the National Anthem, and a short Laurel & Hardy sketch. A question and answer session with tri-service military personnel and veterans will follow the film.

Marton Institute

Marton Institute host an evening of entertainment from Grace Lemont, alongside bingo and a raffle to celebrate Armed Forces Week. A free of charge Hot Pot supper will also be served during the evening.

Members of the Armed Forces, veterans, families, friends and supporters are invited to enjoy a five course meal followed by entertainment from a top-class cabaret line-up and band. Dress code: lounge suits, blazers or black tie. Medals may be worn.

National Armed Forces Day

Location: St John’s Square


Don’t miss the famous replica Spitfire and her ground crew who will be on hand for all your questions. Marvel at the size of the Land Guns and talk to the crew about the role the guns played during the wars. Have your photo taken with the Sergeant Major, learn about life in the trenches or onboard with the Navy. There really will be something for everyone on this very special day.

There will be live acts on stage celebrating all your forces favourites from Glenn Miller to James Brown and loads in between and don’t miss our military bands. There will be limited seating in front of the stage so please feel free to bring your own seats to enjoy the show. Feel free to sing along or if you are feeling really energetic join in with the dancers.

National Armed Forces Day – Blackpool Promenade

The National Armed Forces day celebrations continue on the Tower Festival Headland with a Military Careers office, vintage  and modern-day military vehicle displays, an RAF Spitfire flypast, and much more.

Armed Forces Day is brought to a climax with a full live concert by the Band & Corps of Drums of The Royal Regiment of Fusiliers (Lancashire). Please note: This is a concert and not a dance event.

Sunday Morning Service & Parade

Time: Assemble from 10:30 Service 11:00 Parade approx. 11:30

Location: Blackpool Cenotaph/Promenade

Blackpool comes together to honour and unite Britain’s Armed Forces past, present and future. Attending the service will be veterans, cadets, serving military. Everyone is welcome. Following the service, Blackpool invites members of the Armed Forces, veterans and cadets to join in the short parade along the Promenade. Friends, family and members of the general public are invited to line the route, cheer and wave their Union Flags.

Those wanting to lay wreaths may do so after the service.

The Submariners Sizzling BBQ

Throughout the week, activities supporting the Armed Forces will take place in many venues across Blackpool, including The Royal British Legion, and Houndshill Shopping Centre.
