Then take make sure you don't miss Blackpool's wonderful free air show on August 8 – featuring the Red Arrows aerial display team along with scores of other flying machines. It's one of the summer's must-see events and is always a busy weekend – so be sure to book early!

2. Enjoy 18 slides and attractions to keep water babies and landlubbers of all ages entertained for the whole day at Sandcastle Waterpark. Float on a lazy river or enjoy the world’s longest indoor rollercoaster waterslide – it even goes uphill!

3. Blackpool has rides galore, so if all the fun of the fair is on your holiday 'to do' list then make sure you pay us a visit! Whether it's the big wheel and more on Central Pier or the thrills of the Pleasure Beach Resort, there's something for all ride lovers.

4. Take a trip to picturesque North Pier and take a walk out over the Irish Sea with an ice cream – not an experience you can have in many places! Little ones love the vintage carousel at the seaward end.

5. Don't miss the greatest free show on earth as the Blackpool Illuminations shine from 3 September - 7 November 2010. Beloved by generations of children from Lancashire, the UK and beyond, this wonderland of lights is unlike anything else in the world. Why not try it by tram, bike or landau this year? And be sure to join us for Switch On Weekend from Friday 3 September 2010, featuring special celebrity guests.

Blackpool Model Village6. Travel from a Scottish Castle to a Cornish fishing village in a few steps as you experience this wonderful world in miniature at Blackpool’s award-winning Model Village & Gardens.

7. Take a boat out on the boating lake at Stanley Park and while away some time then visit the playgrounds and maybe enjoy a game of bowls, or a picnic in one of the many lawned areas. You can even hire a bike to get back to the promenade from one of the new bike hire hubs!

8. Enjoy the wildlife in Blackpool – the resort's Zoo is home to 1,500 animals, birds and insects from all over the world whilst the brilliant SEA LIFE Centre offers underwater explorers the chance to get up close and personal with some of the deep's most fearsome predators in their shark tunnel.
