Beach volleyball comes to town in September. It’s the CEV European Championship Tour Beach Volleyball English Masters, with Europe’s top players taking the resort by storm.

The World Firework Championships (September and October), another internationally acclaimed event, international pyrotechnical experts compete for the coveted title, staging amazing displays in the skies above Central Promenade. The event also makes the opening weeks of the Illuminations season an even more explosive experience.

Blackpool Illuminations (September - November) is the greatest free show on earth and has been part of British culture since 1879 and 2009 promises to be another electrifying year.

There are exciting, new editions to the popular Dr Who section, a chance for you to have your 15 minutes of fame as part of the ‘localHeads’ section and all the glamour and glitz of the Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen designed “Decodance” and “Venus Reborn” features.

The Big Switch On celebration on September 4 will be another memorable evening, with special celebrity guests, a free concert and a live broadcast on BBC Radio 2.
