One of the most spectacular displays ever created for Blackpool Illuminations formed the centrepiece of the 2009 extravaganza.
Billed as ‘the greatest free show on earth’, visitors were wowed by the latest additions, which set a new benchmark for future years.
Rengoli Peacock
In a major, ground-breaking departure from the traditional tableau format, this innovative highlight will feature video projection and LED lighting, as well as sound effects, music, story-telling and eye-catching imagery.
It tells the story of Divali, the popular worldwide celebration which coincides with the timing of the Illuminations.
The hi-tech tableau comprised of a magnificent illuminated peacock as the centre piece, together with screens either side, featuring videos of traditional Indian dancing.
Entirely lit with energy-efficient LEDs, which were designed in from the outset, it creates a very bright display with low power consumption.
Dr Who
The ever popular Dr Who section was moved to a new location near Pleasure Beach Resort, with the installation of three new monsters. A new Dr Who section was also installed along the cliffs at the resort’s North Shore, featuring the dreaded Red Dalek – including a new video screen illustrating highlights from the programme.
Tiffany Lights
The Tiffany Lamps were revamped in a new style with a nod towards the traditional Tiffany design,
together with fresh artwork and a completely new look.
Concertina Critters
The Concertina Critters were given totally new designs, along with imaginative, state-of-the-art programmable LED shapes, which shone on Queens Promenade, creating a myriad of colours and patterns for all to see.
Leaded Lights
Leaded Lights is an incredible array of pre-programmed LED displays running across the Promenade. This award-winning section, which was named as PLASA Innovation of the Year, now boasts a synchronised electronic ‘ping’ amongst many other patterns of colour and shape.
Tableaux
A new projected tableau featuring all the CBBC favourites joined us for 2009, including ‘In The Night Garden’ and many more, as well as enchanting new features for younger visitors.
