Beyond Blackpool

Blackpool is a fantastic base for exploring the proud red rose county of Lancashire and the surrounding regions of England’s northwest.

Lancashire is a county steeped in rich heritage and tradition - from Medieval Lancaster Castle, to the working 19th Century mills.

A tour of Pendle will allow you to discover the story of the infamous Pendle Witches, and introduce you to the stunning countryside, which was Charlotte Brontë’s setting for Jane Eyre.

The more active will love Lancashire for the sheer number of walks and rambles to be found within its borders, from gentle routes along historic canals, to the challenging 32-mile Witton Weavers Way.

If that gives you the desire to fill your lungs with more fresh air, head north to the glorious Lake District.

There are hills and mountains and lakesides to roam. Discover the idyllic spots which have inspired so many of our greatest writers, including William Wordsworth, Beatrix Potter and John Ruskin.

If that gives you the desire to fill your lungs with more fresh air, head north to the Lake District England's five tallest mountains, herdeepest lake, two national parks and three areas of outstanding natural beauty should provide more than enough outdoor adventures for you to choose from. Or why not search out those idyllic spots which have inspired so many of our greatest writers, over thousands of years, including William Wordsworth, Beatrix Potter and John Ruskin, amongst many others.

Liverpool is still basking in the glory of its successful European Capital of Culture year – and there is so much to do in the city, with its fascinating maritime past and a culture rich in music and literature.

The southerly border of England’s northwest is the historical county of Cheshire, and its county town, Chester - rich in Roman and Medieval heritage. Balancing heritage with a more modern twist, the ‘Rows’ in Chester have become a wonderfully eclectic mix of boutiques, designer shops and high fashion high street brands.

Manchester is also a great place to shop till you drop, both in the city’s many stores and designer boutiques or in the stunningly vast Trafford Centre. Nightlife in the city is always bustling, and the atmosphere in Manchester’s gay village is famous the world over.
