The fabulous FREE event, which takes place over the famous Blackpool promenade between South and Central piers in the resort, will begin just after 4pm with the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, featuring a historic Spitfire, Hurricane and Lancaster Bomber.
The Lancaster PA474 is one of only two remaining in airworthy condition out of the 7377 that were built - the other being in Canada.
The Spitfire and Hurricane both played a major part in achieving ultimate victory in WWII and truly deserve their place as some of the most successful fighters ever designed - and certainly two of the most famous and charismatic aircraft of all time.
These magnificent machines will be followed by a flypast from a Jet Provost mk5. The plane’s last tour of duty was in 1941 at RAF Finningly at the 6STS flying training school. The Jet was originally used to train fast Jet navigators on low level and mid air defence training squadrons.
Then there’ll be aerobatic aerial displays from Hawker Hunter XE685, originally built at the aircraft company’s Blackpool factory back in 1955. It’s had a varied career and undergone a number of alterations but makes a magnificent return to Blackpool piloted by former RAF pilot Mark Southern.
The Breitling Wing Walkers, the world’s only formation wingwalking team, will then step into the line up with their beautiful Boeing Stearman biplanes. The aircraft will take to the skies, performing a breathtaking sequence of formation loops and rolls, while daring wingwalkers perform acrobatics on their wings!
Solo aerobatics from the CAP232 are up next - piloted by current UK National Aerobatic Champion Gerald Cooper. With a flying style that is both aggressive and highly accurate, Gerald’s aerobatic displays are always distinctive, innovative and hugely popular with the crowds.
The show will be concluded with a big finale as the RAF Red Arrows Formation aerobatic display team takes to the skies. 2010 is the Arrows’ 46th display season and sees Squadron Leader Ben Murphy take the helm as the new Red 1, Officer Commanding and Team Leader. Another milestone for 2010 is the selection of the first ever-female Red Arrows display pilot, Flight Lieutenant Kirsty Moore.
The best viewpoint will be on the Promenade between Central and South Piers.
***Red Arrows Update***
We have just been advised that the earlier safety issues with the Hawk Jets have now been resolved and the Red Arrows will be taking part in Sunday's display.
