Culture & Heritage
As the birthplace of the seaside holiday and an undisputed entertainment mecca, Blackpool’s heritage is second to none.
Blackpool’s beautiful Grand Theatre, designed by renowned architect Frank Matcham in 1894 offers a packed year-round programme of live shows and there’s a treasure trove of history at Blackpool Tower – with the glorious ballroom and captivating circus taking centre stage.
The highly acclaimed Grundy Art Gallery, built in 1911, has an ever-changing programme of fascinating exhibitions throughout the year.
There’s always something to see at the wonderfully ornate Winter Gardens, including the opulent Empress Ballroom, which attracts top bands and artists, and the amazing Opera House - one of the largest stages in Europe and a great venue for hit musical shows.
For some modern culture check out the Great Promenade Show on South Beach, a collection of large outdoor artworks which celebrate the uniqueness of Blackpool, or stop for a coffee and enjoy the newly renovated St John’s with it’s striking sculpture and playful fountains.
