VisitBlackpool Tops the North West Social Media League Table!
VisitBlackpool has been ranked best in the North West and second in the whole of England in a social media performance league table.
The VisitBlackpool team was pipped to the national winning post by Visit Lincoln in the annual English Tourism Social Media Index which grades 133 regional tourism bodies according to social media performance.
The Index, produced by social media agency Umpf in association with TripAdvisor Rentals, was assembled by measuring the social media performance of each tourism body based on an algorithm, calculated by a team of people who considered use of eight social networks.
The data was then analysed by a panel of three industry judges who presided over the final results, creating a league table which benchmarks social media success among England’s tourism bodies.
VisitBlackpool climbed an impressive 72 places from 2016 to finish in second place by showing great consistency in its data score. This included top marks for Facebook follower growth and Twitter engagements in relation to its audience size.
Cllr Gillian Campbell, Deputy Leader of Blackpool Council said, “This is fantastic news for the VisitBlackpool team and an incredible increase over the past 12 months.
“It also pays testament to all the hard work that our digital marketing team have carried out over the past year covering the amount of events and activities that a resort like Blackpool produces each year.”
Impressed by the range and quality of the VisitBlackpool content and the breadth of media used, the judges also felt that VisitBlackpool showed great attention to detail.
Saskia Welman, a TripAdvisor spokesperson, said: “Tourism and travel brands are making great strides with social media, leveraging the right platforms and tools to reach and engage with different audiences.
“As industry use of social media matures, brands and boards will have to find new ways to reach and engage with audiences. It’s great to see many of the UK’s tourism organisations are up to the challenge and leading the way with both creative and innovative activities across their social channels.”
