Conor Mcgregor’s a Knockout Madame Tussauds Blackpool Unveils New Wax Figure 8 February 2018 by Visit Blackpool The world’s first wax figure of Conor McGregor packed a punch as it was unveiled today by Madame Tussauds Blackpool. Notorious by name, notorious by nature, Conor’s new figure attracted a lot of attention on his arrival as locals swarmed on the Enigma gym to challenge the champ champ to a fight. McGregor appears in his colourful UFC shorts and standing in a fighting pose dressed in a Versace dressing gown, with his signature tattoos emblazoned across his chest. Creating Conor’s wax figure was an in-depth and thorough process, with a dedicated team of sculptors observing and analysing hundreds of photographs to ensure as accurate a likeness as possible. The figures are created by expert teams of sculptors, moulders, colourists and hair stylists. Conor’s figure in particular needed close attention to replicate his detailed tattoos across his torso and arms. After starting his career as a successful mixed martial artist at the age of 18, McGregor went on to compete in the Ultimate Fighting Championship becoming the lightweight champion and former featherweight champion, the only fighter to be the titleholder in two UFC divisions simultaneously. McGregor was also recently revealed as the most googled sport star of 2017, beating the likes of Tom Brady and LeBron James, proving the athlete has become a global sensation. General Manager, Matthew Titherington, said: “We are thrilled to launch Conor’s figure here in Blackpool. “A hard hitter in and out of the ring, Conor is a hugely popular character so we’re sure our guests will love being able to get up close and personal with him. It’s not every day you can square up to a professional fighter and live to tell the tale!” Enigma gym owner Paul Rice, pictured squaring up to the star, said, “I actually fought in the same European No Gi tournament as Conor a few years ago. I didn’t get the chance to fight him then, but glad I’ve been able to come face to face with him in the ring today!” McGregor will be inducted into the new Sporting Heroes Academy, set to open in the summer and will feature some of Britain’s greatest sporting legends. The new academy is a colourful, immersive, interactive space where guests can meet those who’ve become heroes through their dedication to sport and take the opportunity to test and hone their own skills through the various challenges on offer, to see if a potential sporting hero lies within them.
