The Big Switch-On

This year, Blackpool welcomed a true Hollywood star for the unveiling of a display like no other. Each year, a celebrity is invited to switch on the Lights, and 2015’s guest was none other than renowned director Tim Burton.

The man behind films such as Edward Scissorhands, Alice in Wonderland, Sleepy Hollow and Beetlejuice is a known fan of the resort and delighted onlookers by pressing the button to open this year’s Illuminations in fine style.

Blackpool Promenade will be completely transformed as 6 miles of seaside will be beautifully lit up, with a stunning projection show adorning The Blackpool Tower building. A film has been specially created for the occasion, and continues the Illuminations’ tradition of offering something new and awe-inspiring.

On top of that, LightPool will be accompanied by a whole host of events and installations across the town, including at the Grundy Art Gallery. Visitors can marvel at its special ‘Sensory Systems’ exhibition, which combines the work of several acclaimed artists who have made light the central theme of their work.

Old Favourites Return

As well as LightPool, regular Blackpool visitors will be delighted to know that many much-loved favourites will make a welcome return for this year’s Illuminations.

Displays such as Bling, Alice’s Garden, Dynamo and Art for Walls will all be decorating the Blackpool skyline until November 8th. So, if you haven’t yet experienced the magic of Blackpool Illuminations, make 2015 your year!

S Commercial Electricity

Leading energy supplier and Fleetwood-based company, BES Utilities is now in the second year of a sponsorship deal with Blackpool Council worth in excess of £100,000, and is proud to be ‘The Power Behind The Lights’.

BES Managing Director Andy Pilley said: “As one of Britain’s leading suppliers of commercial gas, electricity and telecoms we are experts at saving businesses money on their utility bills.

BES Utilities provided electricity for free for the Illuminations in 2014 and at half price for this year. The deal equates to more than £100,000 – making BES Utilities the biggest contributor to the Lights for more than a decade.
