A visit to Blackpool just wouldn’t be complete without taking in a very different kind of Northern Lights – the Blackpool Illuminations. More than three million visitors a year can’t be wrong!

Once described as ‘Artificial Sunshine’, the Illuminations have been a major tourist attraction since 1879, and a guiding light for visitors to the resort ever since.

Last year’s event saw Jonathan Ross flick the switch and crowd-pleasing performances from Take That’s Gary Barlow and Madness. This year’s event will take place on August 29 and promises to be just as  much fun.

Going Greener

Blackpool’s Illuminations have stayed true to their roots  over the years, retaining that feeling of wonder and excitement that the first ever visitors experienced. But the Illuminations are also looking to the future by embracing more energy-efficient technology in an attempt to minimise the event’s carbon footprint.

From now until October, work will be taking place on Junction 32 of M6, please check here for more details.
