Blackpool is celebrating 100 years of its world-famous Illuminations this year and people who love the Lights are being given the opportunity to literally get a-head and be part of this enormous visitor attraction.

The Centenary celebrations will include the new Centenary Heads section – Andy Warhol-style pop art images which will feature the faces of people who want to be part of this amazing display.

Keith LeminThis is a golden opportunity for people, and even pets, to get their face in the Lights for 66 nights from Friday August 31st to Sunday November 4th when more than three million people will visit the resort.

But people will have to be quick as there are only 210 spaces available and the closing date for photographs to be submitted for inclusion is Friday July 20th.

The colourful section follows on from the successful Famous Heads section which featured in last year’s Illuminations with famous faces including Keith Lemon, Les Dawson, Ken Dodd and Dame Shirley Bassey.
Blackpool Illuminations Manager Richard Ryan said: “We are delighted to be adding the Centenary Heads to this year’s Illuminations.

“It is very exciting to be celebrating 100 years of our world-famous Blackpool Illuminations and we feel it is important to let people really feel they are part of this fantastic light show.

Keith Lemon - Treated“What better way than to see your face, your child’s face or even your pet feature in the Lights.”

The Centenary Heads display will be located on the cliffs in the famous tableau section at the North end of the display. This is the perfect place for this new feature as it means people can actually walk up to the display and have their photograph taken.

The price is £100 plus VAT and the actual size of the image will be half a metre square.

This will make a perfect gift for people and pets of all ages and would be a wonderful surprise for your loved ones when you visit Blackpool.

Natalie Wyatt, Managing Director of Marketing Blackpool, added: “Everyone loves Blackpool Illuminations and it’s fantastic that people are being given the chance to feature in the Lights in this way.

“We are really looking forward to celebrating 100 years of Blackpool Illuminations and welcoming the many visitors who will enjoy not only the Illuminations but the many other attractions we have.

“This is going to be a great year for Blackpool.”

If you want to be part of the Centenary Heads feature, images need to be a head and shoulder’s shot. Digital images can be submitted by email, or photographs by post.

Colour and black & white images are acceptable but a colourising special effect will be applied to your image and this is what will be displayed in the Centenary Heads feature 2012.
