The innovative and visually stunning Mugenkyo Taiko Drummers bring their spectacular show to Blackpool’s Grand Theatre on Monday 3rd October.
Thundering rhythms on huge taiko drums interweave with layers of percussive soundscapes and delicate bamboo flute in a spellbinding display of precise choreography and sheer athleticism.
Established in 1994 Mugenkyo Taiko Drummers have built an acclaimed reputation for their hard-hitting and energetic performances. Through years of touring Mugenkyo have developed a gritty, passionate style that is uniquely their own. Retaining the traditional spirit of taiko they have created a contemporary sound and modern stage show that has captivated audiences across the world.
Mugenkyo Taiko Drummers have spearheaded the growing movement to develop taiko drumming as a European art form, through high profile performances, television appearances and extensive touring. Pushing the boundaries of taiko with their various, artistic collaborations they have worked with contemporary dance groups, Scottish Musician of the Year, bagpiper Stuart Cassells for Last Night of the Proms and appeared with electronic dance artist, Kenji Williams, at Glastonbury Festival amongst others.
Mugenkyo present taiko as a modern and theatrical performing art, with precise choreography, dramatic lighting, and a variety of costumes ranging from the post-apocalyptic industrial to gorgeous earthy silks.
The concert is extremely diverse: powerful rhythms on an array of instruments from small hand-held drums to the thunderous reverberations of the huge Odaiko big drum, delicate bamboo flute, soulful voice, layers of percussive soundscapes, and innovative dance tightly integrated with the taiko drums.
The Mugenkyo Taiko Drummers are at the Grand Theatre on Monday 3rd October at 7.30pm.
